“Every child is an artist. The problem is how to remain an artist once we grow up.”
Pablo Picasso
Since my childhood, I have been fascinated with drawing. It enabled me to find myself and lose myself at the same time.
My formal art lessons started at the age of 9 with orthodox watercolor techniques. I was drawn into Watercolor’s transparency, three dimensional aspects. It was like a swim in the metaphysics of life... a mirror of one's own character. I liked the unpredictability and colorfulness like a swim in the metaphysics of life.
I like writing poems without words in watercolor with my brush strokes. As To be an artist is to believe in life – I believe and draw what I see - nature, landscape, portraits. I try to maintain the delicate balance between human and nature.
Water color has been my favorite medium since I was 15 years old and it continues to provide unique opportunities and challenges, as well as an invitation to explore new techniques. It is therapeutic for me, supports my mental health and boosts my confidence.
I also like the challenge of controlling Watercolors as the mistakes in color or value is not easy to fix. You cannot cover your marks – so it pushes me to get it right first time.
This is me, Eliza Rao – Watercolor illustrator – currently based in Hythe, England with family.
